Material Selection Starts with the Real Chemical Exposure

Stainless steel grade selection must consider the process chemicals, concentration, temperature, water content, contaminants, cleaning chemistry, exposure duration and fabrication condition. A generic “chemical resistant” claim is not a usable specification.

Control the Interface to Reduce Bypass Risk

Show where the insert seats, how it is located, the intended sealing boundary, dimensional clearances and whether fluid can pass around the basket. Define bolt holes, collars, grooves or gasket faces when present.

Flow, Support and Cleaning

Normal flow

Mark upstream/downstream and which side of the media sees higher pressure.

Support position

Place the rigid layer on the loaded side required by the drawing and flow direction.

Reverse cleaning

State reverse pressure or head separately if backwashing or flushing occurs.

Cleaning chemistry

Check media, support, joints and any seals against the approved cleaning method.

Chemical Processing Filter Basket FAQ

It is a removable or fixed metal basket installed inside a process vessel, tank, strainer housing or equipment opening to retain solids while liquid follows a defined flow path. The insert must match the housing interface and chemical duty.

304, 316 and 316L are common enquiries, but no grade is universally suitable. Provide the exact chemicals, concentrations, temperature, contaminants, cleaning agents and exposure conditions for compatibility review.

Perforated metal can provide coarse screening or structural support. Woven mesh can provide finer defined openings. Composite inserts combine a fine layer with a rigid supporting body when the duty requires both.

The drawing should define the seating face, flange or collar, seal location if used, clearances and the intended flow boundary. A correct basket opening does not prevent bypass if the equipment interface is incomplete.

Send the equipment or housing drawing, installation interface, basket profile and depth, medium chemistry, temperature, solids, required opening or rating, material, support, flow direction, pressure or head, cleaning method and quantity.

A sample can help identify geometry, but a controlled drawing and service data are still needed to define critical dimensions, material, media, support, interfaces and acceptance requirements.
