Custom Perforated Filter Basket
A custom perforated filter basket is defined by its sheet material, thickness, hole geometry, basket dimensions, flange or rim, handle, bottom and seam. It can function as a coarse strainer, debris collector, protective basket or rigid support for finer wire mesh.
Perforated Basket Functions
Coarse straining
Controlled holes retain larger particles while allowing liquid, gas or bulk material to pass.
Debris collection
Removable basket captures solids for inspection, cleaning and return to service.
Protective support
Rigid perforated body protects or supports finer woven filtration media.
Equipment-specific insert
Flange, rim, handle and bottom geometry are matched to the receiving housing.
Perforated Filter Basket Specification Checklist
A hole diameter and basket diameter alone are incomplete. The pitch, sheet thickness, flange, handle, bottom and equipment interface should be shown together.
| RFQ field | What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Material and thickness | Alloy/grade, sheet thickness and finish if required | Relates to corrosion, rigidity, forming and welding |
| Perforation | Hole shape, size, pitch, pattern, orientation and margins | Defines screening behavior, ligament and theoretical open area |
| Basket body | Round/square form, diameter or width, depth, taper and tolerances | Controls fit, usable volume and removal clearance |
| Top and bottom | Flange/rim, mounting holes, handle, open or closed bottom | Defines seating, lifting, sealing and captured-solids retention |
| Fine media | Woven mesh layer, rating, attachment and flow direction | Separates coarse perforated support from actual fine filtration |
Flange, Rim, Handle and Bottom Details
The top interface may be a flat flange with mounting holes, a rolled rim, collar or drawing-specific locating feature. Handles must clear the housing and provide safe removal space. Bottom designs may be perforated, solid, removable or reinforced.
State the seating face, bolt pattern, allowable projection, lifting direction and weld requirements on the drawing.
Hole Size, Pitch and Effective Open Area
Perforation controls flow and strength
Hole size controls the nominal clear opening. Pitch is the center-to-center spacing, while ligament is the metal left between adjacent holes. Pattern and unperforated margins affect both sheet strength and available flow area.
Finished-basket open area is lower than theoretical sheet open area when seams, flanges, bottoms and reinforcements block part of the perforated surface.
Product Examples and Available Configurations

- Optional fine wire mesh lining
Perforated Basket vs Wire Mesh Basket
Perforated sheet basket
Higher sheet rigidity and clearly punched holes; suited to coarse straining and structural support.
Woven wire mesh basket
Woven openings can provide finer screening but require separate wire diameter and weave specification.
Composite basket
Perforated support combined with fine mesh when both rigidity and smaller retention are needed.
For woven construction, see the existing stainless steel basket filter. For cylindrical perforated bodies without a basket interface, compare the perforated filter tube.
Perforated Basket Selection Workflow
1. Define the duty
Coarse straining, debris collection, media protection or fine-mesh support.
2. Specify perforation
State hole shape, size, pitch, pattern, orientation and margins.
3. Define the body
Provide material, thickness, dimensions, taper, seam and tolerances.
4. Detail the interface
Show flange/rim, handle, bottom, seal and housing clearance.
5. Complete the RFQ
Add operating medium, temperature, quantity, drawing and required documents.
Perforated Filter Basket FAQ
It is a removable or fixed fabricated basket made from perforated metal, often completed with a flange, rim, handle, cap or support structure. It is mainly used for coarse straining, debris collection, equipment protection or support for finer filter media.
Provide material, sheet thickness, hole shape and size, pitch, pattern, basket diameter or width, depth, flange and rim dimensions, handle, seam, bottom, tolerances, quantity and intended operating duty.
Usually the perforated body provides coarse screening or structural support. Fine filtration requires woven wire mesh, Dutch weave or another porous layer. State the fine-media construction and flow direction separately.
State the hole shape, hole size, pitch and pattern. Theoretical sheet open area can differ from effective basket open area because the seam, flange, bottom, reinforcement and unperforated margins block part of the flow area.
Yes, drawing-based designs can be reviewed with flanges, rolled rims, lifting handles, open or closed bottoms, collars, frames and mounting holes. Critical dimensions and weld requirements should be shown.
A perforated basket is fabricated from punched sheet and is generally more rigid with larger controlled holes. A woven wire mesh basket uses woven openings and may provide finer screening. Composite designs can combine both structures.
