Custom Stainless Steel Filter Disc
Custom stainless steel filter discs are specified around the filter media, retention requirement, diameter, layer structure, edge and installation conditions. Send a drawing or complete specification so the disc can be reviewed as part of the actual filtration assembly.
Filter Disc Options at a Glance
This page owns the broad custom stainless steel wire mesh filter-disc purchasing intent. Use the dedicated pages below when a rim, bonded sintered laminate, perforated plate or application-specific construction is already fixed.
Plain mesh disc
Single-layer woven mesh cut to a round, annular or drawing-specific outline.
Edged filter disc
A metal rim contains the mesh edge and can improve handling and fit inside the assembly.
Multilayer disc
Layers can combine filtration, drainage and support functions when the design requires them.
Supported disc
Fine mesh paired with coarse mesh or perforated support for greater structural stability.
Specification Checklist for Custom Filter Discs
A filter disc should be quoted from a dimensional and functional specification, not from diameter alone. Include the complete assembly conditions when pressure, sealing or support is important.

| RFQ field | What to specify | Selection impact |
|---|---|---|
| Media | Square weave, Dutch weave, sintered mesh or supported combination | Controls pore structure, flow behavior and cleanability |
| Filtration requirement | Mesh and wire diameter, nominal opening, or stated micron rating and method | Prevents ambiguity between mesh count and particle retention |
| Material | Required stainless steel grade for media, support and edge | Must match chemistry, temperature, cleaning and fabrication |
| Geometry | Outside/inside diameter, thickness, flatness and dimensional tolerances | Determines fit and sealing inside the assembly |
| Layers and support | Layer sequence, support direction and joining requirement | Affects rigidity, flow direction and handling |
| Edge | Plain cut, welded perimeter, metal rim, flange or drawing detail | Controls edge containment, mounting and seal interface |
Choose the Filter Media First
Square woven mesh provides directly measurable openings when mesh count and wire diameter are known. Dutch weave creates an indirect pore path for finer filtration. Sintered mesh bonds multiple layers into a stable porous structure. Perforated metal or coarse mesh may be added as support.
The correct choice depends on required retention, flow, differential pressure, cleaning method and assembly design. Use the filter disc selection guide to compare finished structures before requesting a quotation.
Materials and Construction
304 stainless steel
A common starting material for general industrial service when its corrosion resistance is adequate.
316 / 316L stainless steel
Often considered where chlorides, process chemistry or welded construction require additional review.
Layer combination
Filter, drainage and support layers should be listed in sequence with the intended flow direction.
Compare material considerations in the 304 vs 316 stainless steel wire mesh guide. When separate filtration and support screens are required, review the multi-layer wire mesh filter disc.
Dimensions, Edges and Shapes
- Round discs: define outside diameter and tolerance.
- Annular discs: add inside diameter, concentricity and orientation requirements.
- Edged discs: define rim material, profile, width and finished thickness.
- Non-round parts: provide a drawing for outline, holes, tabs or mounting details.
- Supported discs: identify support type, side and joining method.
Typical Industrial Roles
Process filtration
Flat filtration media installed in liquid or gas process equipment.
Polymer screen packs
Single or multilayer discs configured for extrusion and melt-filtration assemblies.
Equipment protection
Screening elements used to retain particles before sensitive components.
Compact assemblies
Small filters, strainers and drawing-specific components with limited installation space.
For a bonded multilayer structure, see the sintered wire mesh filter disc. For a rigid punched support or coarse screen, use the perforated metal filter disc. The navigation category remains disc filter elements.
Filter Disc Selection Workflow
1. Define retention
State the target particle control and whether the value is nominal, absolute or based on a specified test.
2. Select media
Choose the weave or porous structure from retention, flow, pressure and cleaning requirements.
3. Define geometry
Provide diameter, thickness, tolerances, edge and sealing or mounting interfaces.
4. Confirm support
State layer sequence, support direction and joining details where required.
5. Send operating data
Include medium, temperature, differential pressure, cleaning and quantity for review.

What to Include in Your RFQ
- Drawing and finished dimensions
- Filter media and stainless steel grade
- Mesh, wire diameter, opening or specified rating
- Layer sequence and flow direction
- Edge, support and joining requirements
- Operating medium, temperature and differential pressure
- Cleaning method and quantity
Where a value cannot be confirmed, describe the function and operating conditions rather than guessing. Use the drawing and tolerance checklist before sending the RFQ.
Stainless Steel Filter Disc FAQ
A stainless steel filter disc is a flat filtration component cut or formed from woven wire mesh, sintered mesh, perforated metal or a supported combination. It is installed in an assembly to retain particles while allowing the process fluid or gas to pass.
Provide the outside diameter or full drawing dimensions, mesh or filtration requirement, material grade, layer structure, edge construction, support details, operating medium, temperature and pressure or differential-pressure conditions, plus quantity.
For square woven mesh, nominal opening can be calculated from mesh count and wire diameter. Dutch weave, multilayer and sintered media require construction-specific data and a stated rating or test method. Mesh count alone is not enough.
A plain disc is cut from the selected media. An edged disc adds a rim to contain and reinforce the perimeter. A supported disc combines fine filter media with coarse mesh or perforated metal when greater handling stability is required.
The choice depends on the process medium, chlorides, temperature, cleaning chemicals, fabrication and service-life requirement. 304, 316 and 316L are common specification options, but final suitability must be reviewed for the actual application.
A filter element can be reviewed from a drawing in round, annular, rectangular or application-specific outlines, subject to the media, edge construction, tolerances and fabrication feasibility.
