Melt Filtration Before the Forming Die

The mesh assembly retains suitable solid contamination from the polymer melt in a compatible filtration system before the pipe or profile die. The screen requires the support and retention arrangement specified for that equipment.

Process context: polymer melting → equipment-defined filtration → forming die → downstream calibration, cooling and haul-off. The exact arrangement follows the line design.

Identify Your Extrusion Application

PE / HDPE Pipe

State the actual resin grade, additives and feed condition. Provide the approved screen specification and filtration objective instead of selecting mesh from pipe diameter.

PP Pipe and Tubing

Identify the material and relevant melt stream. Tube wall thickness is product information, not a direct conversion to mesh opening.

Plastic Profiles

Describe the compound and the equipment-defined filter position. For PVC or filled formulations, submit the existing approved arrangement for review.

Multi-Layer / Coextrusion

Label each filter by extruder or melt stream. Keep the screen requirements for different materials separate, even when they feed the same final product.

Reference / custom available: round/disc, oval, kidney, rectangular, annular and drawing-defined shapes. An annular finished pipe does not automatically require an annular screen.

For square mesh, include wire diameter. For Dutch weave, provide the complete warp/weft construction and relevant filtration data. Mesh count is not a guaranteed micron retention rating.

Typical Layer Schedules: Reference Only

Reference / custom available: 20/40/80/40/20 mesh, 20/60/100 mesh and 40/80/200/80/40 mesh illustrate multi-layer descriptions. They are not fixed settings for HDPE pipe, PP tubing or PVC profiles.

The final schedule follows the extrusion process, material, filtration requirement and support arrangement. Confirm each layer and flow direction using our screen pack mesh combinations and layer-order guide.

Check the Screen Changer, Not Only the Extruder Model

A machine model is useful context, but a replacement needs the actual cavity drawing, recess depth, active opening and support details. Confirm overall thickness and any critical edge contact or orientation features.

Manual, continuous and backflush systems can use different component formats. Do not assume a flat pack replaces a belt, candle or other proprietary element.

For coextrusion, assign a separate part identifier to each filter configuration. The number of finished product layers does not determine mesh-layer count.

Define the Result You Need to Evaluate

Describe the observed contamination and how the pipe or profile will be inspected. Filtration is one process step; a new screen cannot be promised to correct wall variation, all surface marks or every quality issue.

When considering a different specification, compare product condition, pressure trend and output under comparable conditions and follow equipment limits. Finer mesh and more layers are not automatically better.

Start with dimensions, the complete layer schedule, quantity and delivery country. Include the filter drawing or measured sample details, resin, relevant melt stream and current filtration requirement.

Mark unknown details “to confirm.” Photos clarify visible shape and construction but do not verify alloy or hidden layers. Use a drawing revision and separate quantities for each configuration.

Pipe and Profile Extrusion Screen FAQ

It is a mesh filtration assembly installed in compatible polymer melt-filter equipment before the forming die. It is not a strainer installed inside the finished pipe.

No. The screen outside diameter and profile follow the filter cavity and support arrangement. Finished pipe diameter and wall thickness do not define replacement screen dimensions.

Provide the approved working specification or your filtration objective, together with resin, additives, feed condition and equipment details. There is no universal HDPE or PP pipe mesh recommendation.

Submit the actual filtration arrangement and approved component specification for review. Do not assume every PVC line uses a conventional screen pack or that a specification from a PE line can be transferred unchanged.

The finished product shape does not establish the screen shape. Specify round, annular or another profile from the actual filter drawing, including any central opening and its tolerance.

Identify each extruder or melt stream, its material and the corresponding filter component. Finished pipe or profile layers are different from the mesh layers within a screen pack.

No such result is guaranteed. Filtration addresses suitable retained contamination. Dimensional or surface issues can require investigation of the die, material, controls and downstream process as well.

Only after confirming the actual component format, support and cleaning duty. Continuous systems do not all use the same mesh assembly, and welding alone does not prove reverse-flow suitability.
